The Issues
- In Clark County, alone, 1,500 veteran teachers per year retire without incentive to remain in the classroom, and do not pass their expertise on to the next generation of educators
- Teacher quality is one of the biggest factors determining student success
- Student : Teacher Ratio is reported at 22:1, realistically closer to 30:1
- Teacher turnover is trending from an average of about 16% to 25% and above in many locations
- Nevada ranks about 48th in the country for K-12 public education
- NV student proficiency in math, reading, and science is well below the National average
The Mission
Our mission is to provide new teachers with the support and guidance needed, in the first five years of their career, to become highly effective educators, reduce teacher turnover, and increase student achievement at low performing schools, with financial support from professional athletes and community partners.
The Vision
TONY is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that is helping to recruit, support, and develop new teachers into highly effective educators in the largest and lowest performing districts and schools across the country, starting in Las Vegas, NV, in 2024, and expanding outward through time.
